There are three chambers of cathedral proportions, hand created by local slate miners. During your tour you will go about 150m into the hillside and 60m below ground, via a flight of 60 steps. In the lower chambers you will find the Underground Lake with its crystal clear blue/green water.
For much of the year you will be equipped to go on a self-guided tour of the three caverns but in high season guided tours may be in operation as there is a limit on numbers allowed in the lower caverns at one time.
The Caverns are at a constant 10°C, so a jumper and sensible footwear* are recommended.
* Flip flops are deemed sensible, if you wear them regularly!
Open all year Monday – Saturday 10am-5pm (8pm August)
Please note – we are closed Christmas Day but may be open Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Please phone to check.
Take the green option and if you do manage to arrive by foot, by bike or public transport your reward will be a 10% discount off your tour full price entry ticket. (this offer does not apply to a Family Saver Ticket)
Here you will find our Crystals and Crafts Shop selling faeries, fossils and fudge and also a variety of local crafts, gifts and minerals for all pockets. A booklet on the history of Carnglaze Caverns, written by Alan Pascoe, original owner and grandson of the last mine captain, is also available.
There is a refreshment area with vending machines giving hot and cold drinks and snacks, with picnic tables available both undercover and on the lawn. Please help us reduce our carbon footprint by making use of our recycling facilities.
Alongside our shop is Teresa’s Cabin which sells a variety of gifts, crafts and jewellery: www.teresacabin.org.uk
We welcome group bookings for a guided tour by prior arrangement, including evenings and Sundays, throughout the year. Groups of 20 or more, paying as one, attract a 10% discount. These have proved to be especially popular with classic car groups enjoying a Sunday afternoon drive, and with special interest groups. Please ring for further information, prices or to book a group tour on 01579 320251
