Tours Underground in Cornwall's Carnglaze Caverns

There are three chambers of cathedral proportions, hand created by local slate miners. During your tour you will go about 150m into the hillside and 60m below ground, via a flight of 60 steps. In the lower chambers you will find the Underground Lake with its crystal clear blue/green water.

For much of the year you will be equipped to go on a self-guided tour of the three caverns but in high season guided tours may be in operation as there is a limit on numbers allowed in the lower caverns at one time.

The Caverns are at a constant 10°C, so a jumper and sensible footwear* are recommended.

*Flip flops are deemed sensible, if you wear them regularly!

  2. Use the hand sanitiser points before the Ticket Office and on entering and leaving the Caverns.
  3. Wash your hands thoroughly if you use any of the toilet facilities.

As we come out of the current Lockdown, which we wish not to go back into, please follow the above protocols whilst at Carnglaze for everyone’s health and wellbeing.

Here you will find our Crystals and Crafts Shop selling faeries, fossils and fudge and also a variety of local crafts, gifts and minerals for all pockets. A booklet on the history of Carnglaze Caverns, written by Alan Pascoe, original owner and grandson of the last mine captain, is also available.

There is a refreshment area with picnic tables available both undercover and on the lawn.  Hot and cold drinks plus snacks and ice creams are available from the Ticket Office. Please help us reduce our carbon footprint by making use of our recycling facilities.
