Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra

We are delighted to confirm that, under the inspirational direction of Sara Munns, Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra (CYWO) return to give their annual concert.

The players of the Cornwall Music Education Hub’s Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra will be returning to Carnglaze Caverns for their annual Easter concert.  The young will present another exciting programme as the culmination over their hard work over the last year.

Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra and Friends present a feast of musical talent – not to be missed.

Opening the evening in true fanfare style are the Cornwall Youth Brass Ensemble, an impressive group of orchestral brass players performing from the professional brass 10-piece repertoire. Our first half concludes with the Cornwall County Saxophone Ensemble, “Sax is Our business” who demonstrate the versatility and breadth of the saxophone sound in a number of challenging and compelling arrangements.

The Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra take the reigns in the second half with music from the pen of Camphouse, Hess, and Steadman-Allen as well as the premier of “Charol” by Cornish Composer and Bard Gareth Churcher. CYWO are delighted to be performing in Carnglaze again this year, the acoustic is perfect for the sound of the symphonic winds.

This will be a concert for all the family with music to suit most tastes. The concert goers, not just the family support, always say how much they enjoy the concert and did not realise that Cornwall had such talented musicians.

Do come and join them to enjoy what always promises to be a well polished performance and a night to remember!

CYWO  was formed in September 1985.  Over the years, the orchestra has performed at the Edinburgh Festival and Blackheath, London.  Concert programmes have covered a wide range of symphonic band music drawn from classical, romantic and twentieth century repertoire.

Membership of the Orchestra is open to musicians aged 11-21 who live or attend school/college in Cornwall. Often students who go on to University or College out of Cornwall remain in the orchestra for another one or two years.
